Adlai Stevenson once wrote; “all progress has resulted from people who took unpopular positions.” There might be challenges in this class, but they will ultimately serve you and bring you growth.
Recognizing the intersection of history and biography in our lives, history is the context of our lives; where and when? Biography is our individual, personal experiences, the connection between history and biography.
Sociological Mindfulness;
“Think of the people you love and the kind of life you wish for them…I hope you will consider the possibility that mindfulness may be useful as a way to create better lives for more people.” Michael Schwalbe
What is Social Construction of Reality? How does it help us understand the importance of Sociology?
If people define situations as real, they are real in their consequences (Thomas Theorem). We learn ways of interpreting our experiences from those around us.
Ex. Of SCR: sports team fans, Daylight Savings Time, holidays, food for certain meals or occasions.
